Next Project...

Baby blanket.
I have been asked to make a baby blanket, which will be a gift for a friend's friend. I was told that they are going with "colors of the ocean" as a theme for their nursery so this Amy Butler print is my inspiration.

First Show

Yesterday I had my first art/craft show. It was small, around 20 vendors. My friend Jen (http://www.jennelinn.com/) and I shared a table. We had a great looking table which was unique to the show. There was a lot of traffic, however, we didn't sell much for our first show. It was still a learning experience and I'll try it again when I have more inventory to sell!! Thanks to all of those who stopped by to check it out! I will be posting new stuff on my etsy site today...http://www.jessicaurbin.etsy.com/.

Cutie Booties

I am so excited to now offer these cute little booties. They were a little challenging to make, but so cute. I am a little nervous to make anything smaller than this pair (size 6-9 month) but I am willing to give it a shot. Also, I had my first "showcase" on etsy and had a lot of views which is very exciting. A big thank you to all who have been supporting me!!!!

New Amy Butler Fabrics

I just purchased a few new Amy Butler fabrics but I really need to work on my photography. The lighting is best outside, but I don't have the right set up yet. Suggestions are welcome. I also purchased a new dress pattern for sizes 1-4T so I can reach a larger group of buyers. Stay tuned! There are some fun things coming!

Madison

Just got photos of Madison in this dress. What a natural, she is so cute!

I made this dress to fit Madison, I will upload photos when I can get because these dresses look so much better on children than on a hanger. The dress is made from a mix of Amy Butler fabrics. If you are interested in having this dress feel free to email me at jessicaurbin@hotmail.com. Size: 6-9 months Price: $28.00

Miranda 2

I still don't have my stuff up on http://www.etsy.com/ but I made two more dresses this weekend. This one is in the Miranda colors but a different style dress. The nice thing about this dress is that it is made out of suiting material so that the fabric won't wrinkle as much as cotton, and is a little heavier. This would be a great fall dress! If you are interested in having this dress feel free to email me at jessicaurbin@hotmail.com. Size: 9-12 months Price: $28.00

Miranda

I am calling this dress the "Miranda" dress. A coworker was nice enough to have his sweet daughter (Miranda) model it for me. What a cutie! The one she is wearing was a prototype, because I didn't get the collar quite right, but I did make another one that was very successful. That would be the one on the hanger. I'll keep you posted on when they go up for sale at http://www.etsy.com/ but if you are interested in having this dress feel free to email me at jessicaurbin@hotmail.com. Size: 18 months Price: $28.00

Baptism Blanket & Pillow

It is hard finding time to update the blog now that our house is for sale, but wanted to share my latest project. I made this blanket and pillow out of a 60 year old wedding dress for a friend at work. The dress belonged to her mother, and she gave the blanket as a gift to her recently baptised nephew, which will be an item that they will pass down the family for years to come. What a great idea! It turned out beautifully. We are planning to make a baptismal gown with the remaining fabric. I can't wait to see how it turns out! -Oh and thank you Debbie for taking such a great photo of it for me!!

I can't wait to use my new sewing machine

There is nothing better than family. I had a wonderful birthday today and to top it off I just got this new sewing machine. My husband, mom and brother worked together on getting this for me so that it would be a surprise and they knew that I would love it, and I do.

I finally bought my first pattern but am having a hard time finding the time to sit down and make my first dress. We had a wonderful weekend visiting with friends and family so that is my excuse. I plan to sit down and start this dress this weekend. Here is the pattern from Simplicity and the colors of fabric that I plan to use for my first dress.

Hair Accessories

Another fabric flower headband...may go great with a little black strapless dress.

Dress Ideas

Last night I bought fabric to make my first dress, but of course I can stop my mind from creating, and already have other ideas I can't wait to make. This summer is already full of weddings, showers, family gatherings, etc. so I have to find a dress to wear to these events. I was looking in my closet and found a dress that I bought will the price tags still on. Since everyone is aware that we are in a recession, and that in these times we must be creative with what we have, I decided to take this three year old, little black strapless dress and add to it to make it a little more dressy. I am going to try to embellish it will some flowers...found the following pictures for inspiration on the J Crew website.

I have recently been searching for inspiration online and want to begin making children's clothes. I used to sew much more when I was little and just recently worked on a "Product Runway" outfit with a group of girls from work. We used Maharam fabrics to create a dress. I forgot how fun and "therapeutic" sewing can be. Creating children's clothes is my next endeavor. I keep stumbling upon Amy Butlers fabrics and patterns. I love the colors she uses and the combination of prints.

Rya has just recently learned to pose for the camera since I photograph her so often. These pictures were taken after a long day of playing in the gardens. She is a wonderful dog. I am sure you will see more of her on my blog!
